The Brief
Update previous branding, and create a label that stands out on a shelf. The logo is to remain the same, and this specialty wine label should be recognized as a Marynissen wine, but also be a great label on its own.

The Design
I really love the small town I grew up in. For 29 years I’ve called it home, and ever since I began designing, I’ve dreamt of designing for one of our local wineries. Wine is something Niagara-on-the-Lake is known for, so when Marynissen’s former winemaker, Jeff Hundertmark (curret Head Winemaker of Stoney Ridge Estate Winery and also Head Winemaker and Viticulturalist for the Mike Weir Winery), asked me to design wine labels for the winery, I was quite excited.

Lot 31 (the story):
The wine is a Tribute to our founder John Marynissen, for his foresight and determination to plant and grow Cabernet Sauvignon when the experts of the day insisted they couldn’t survive Niagara’s harsh conditions. John proved them all wrong and today the Niagara region flourishes with Cabernet Sauvignon.

The painting on the front (Artist: Douglas Edwards), depicts John Marynissen taking his morning walk through Lot 31.
